Hello. After a v. harrowing ride on the Shinkansen (had to transfer once; sat on the wrong seat for the first 15 minutes, had to stand half of the 3 hour journey between Hachino-he and Hakodate.) I am now in the wonderful, glorious city of Hakodate. I cannot stop gushing about this place, because, like, the skies are incredibly blue, the weather is awesome (summer, but feels like I am in Genting) and there is a Mister Donut’s almost every corner I turn (I exaggerate, but you get the gist of it). Am crashing at Ben’s (the guy I got to know through couchsurfing) now. He is omgnothinglefttosay sort of nice - cycled down from work when I called, showed me in, gave me a set of his house keys and then left me!
Anyhow, to summarise the past day or so thus far, I have:
- Visited 2130128391381 temples in Kamakura
- Covered a mother long hiking trail (about 10 x Bt. Timah Hill) with Jen, this 30year old Azn chick I met at the hostel (srsly, I think I’ve been doing more exercise here while on holiday than I have back home)
- Done the touristy thing by visiting the Shibuya crossing
- Met N, and had, uh, an incredible time. (Bern - Yes, it’s the one I showed you that time, the petty one, hahaha)
- Discovered the awesomeness that is Tengu (and raw octopus in wasabi), this izakaya in Shibuya
- Come to the conclusion that yuzu kakigoori > mango shaved ice
(mostly irrelevant: HOW IS IT THAT THE PEOPLE AT WORK CAN STILL FIND IT IN THEM TO CALL ME FIVE TIMES ON MY TRIP THUS FAR?!)
And actually I’m pretty beat now I might go take a snooze. Or 2. I still have one homeless night in Tokyo, my 2nd to last night. Better call to try to make a reservation now. I. Am. Seriously. Stoked. By the spontaneity of my trip so far, It’s not like woahhh and totally backpacker’s, but I’m definitely out of my usual comfort zone and it’s fucking thrilling. Catch y’all soon! Tooooodles!
